The United Churches of Olympia (map)
Travis Shook, an Olympia High School graduate now based in New York, will perform with his trio at 7:30 PM Saturday evening, December 12, at The United Churches of Olympia, 110 11th Ave. SW.
The $15 cover is payable at the door.
Joining Shook for his first Olympia concert in seven years will be Seattle musicians drummer Matt Jorgensen and a bassist Phil Sparks.
After several years on the Seattle jazz scene, Shook won a national competition and, at 23, was signed to a Columbia Records contract, recording his first, self-titled album with noted drummer Tony Williams. Later, he accompanied Betty Carter on a world tour, and played with greats such as Branford Marsalis, Eddie Harris and Ernestine Anderson.
Shook and his wife, singer Veronica Nunn, own a record label together and reside in upstate New York.
Tickets are $15, available at the door.
